About Sigiriya

Sigiriya, the legendary Lion Rock, is one of Sri Lanka's most iconic archaeological sites. This 5th-century fortress rises dramatically from the plains, adorned with ancient frescoes and water gardens — a must-see wonder of the ancient world.

Climb 1,200 steps past the Mirror Wall and the famous cloud-maiden frescoes to a summit palace with 360-degree views over the jungle. For the best photo of the rock itself, hike neighbouring Pidurangala at sunrise. Sigiriya sits at the centre of the Cultural Triangle, within easy reach of Dambulla Cave Temple and Minneriya National Park, where hundreds of wild elephants gather by the reservoir.

Sigiriya Highlights

  • Climb the Lion Rock fortress
